Pictures of Wildlife.

I went back with a proper camera hoping that our resident bird twitcher Owen would id it with his eagle eye.
Googled it and realised the numerous names used for the bird.
I choose peewit because I thought of the film “Went the Day Well” no idea why.
The northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), also known as the peewit or pewit, tuit or tewit, green plover, or (in Ireland and Great Britain) pyewipe or just lapwing, is a bird in the lapwingsubfamily. It is common through temperate Eurosiberia.

We used to have a robin who, during a cold spell, waited for me to go out to the (unheated) bird bath and break the surface ice for it to have a drink. It sat on the edge of the bath while I did this, no fear at all. Really charming.

 

This is the picture I took the next morning after the first Robin sent out its recce report.

 

Enjoying a nice Flat White today and looking forwards to arrival of maple bacon ciabatta bap when store lunchtime cafeteria operations came to a sudden halt whilst this critter - which flew in from the Gents' 'smalls' area and eventually landed on a decorative pot plant - was gingerly removed towards a fire escape door.



Not gingerly enough. Took to the wing again before eviction completed and flew off towards Ladies' Lingerie, perhaps looking for Father Teds. Bacon bap orders suspended, so had to get a refund and went for a Chimichurri Angus at an alternative venue instead. Made a change.

This pheasant was across the road in front of my house. Not a very clear photo, it was taken with my phone because I had to be quick, it didn't hang around long as the local cats were showing a very keen interest.

Saw one of these flying low as driving out of the village yesterday; we are 20 miles from a usual habitat, although I read that some are shifting inland for winter quarters. May surreptitiously visit the likely spot. Whichever, slowing down meant I saw these boys squaring-up:

Stopped about 30 metres away - unfazed by my presence for a good minute.

 

This Cooper's Hawk was sitting on the power line in front of my house checking out the lunch offerings.

Having scared-off the two Great Tits from the nuts, Mr Woodpecker has to hang on precariously to the base of the seed feeder, because he can't use the foot bars; but was happy to do so for a good minute. Phil the Pheasant likes this because he can now come and hoover-up the spillage below:
