Fascinating footage, some familiar, some new to me. Interesting presentation overall, but I'm still a little unclear as to what you were driving at. Not meant to be critical at all, it was far better than I could have done. :)

Some of the footage is very well known indeed and I did not see anything realy "new" in it. I also notice that that it carries the History Channel logo, so are there any copyright issues here with downloading?

Actually, because it is possible to directly access the other site through the posted link, giving access to the images, why do they need to be posted as such?

Well, none of it was supposed to be new. It's just some footage that I strung together. As far as the whole copywrite issues, I'm not selling anything. Also, isn't most of that public domain?

If you mean is it it published material? Yes, but it is still subject to copyright just like material from a book or article.

You need to check out web material for proscriptions, rights and permissions before you use it and particularly before you post it on another site such as this one.

As a bare minimum you are likely to be required to quote the source of your material.

Most WWII material is likey to still be in copyright for a good few years yet, particularly where it is/was in corporate ownership, where the owner may well still be alive or recently "deceased".

Strongly agreeing with angie's point. However, our board guidelines are so far empty.

Yes, we probably need to do some work on this. Any experts around? Or I could ask permission to copy some ideas from another forum where I am active.

Well, don’t get me started on copyright issues.

Two years ago, a guy in the History Channel group named Pete Paradis started reprinting my stuff without my permission. One of the trolls on that group, named “Researcher,” sent me an off-line e-mail to tell me my stuff was being “plagiarized,” and I reacted with predictable anger.

The denizens of that group then accused me of “imposture” and said my stuff was plagiarism. Mr. Paradis loudly announced that my stuff was plagiarism anyway. I was attacked on the basis of my work, my name, and even had my life threatened by one individual (who also demanded that my site be banned from the internet). The capper of this was the placement of a poll in that group of the “most hated members” of the group, and I was on it.

The results of these attacks on me were the following:

    1. I went on a two-month sabbatical from my page, which has now gone on to more than a year.
    2. I am offering my project to any of my detractors, or anyone else who thinks they can do it better.
    3. I was close to suicide over some of the vicious personal attacks.

So my advice to anyone reprinting stuff – contact the owner first.

Copyright issues are very complicated these days. I urge you to visit ..........

    http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html
    http://copylaw.com/new_articles/copy_myths.html

.......... this is a relatively new area of law and it is my understanding that many of the postulations and premises are only now being tested -- and precedents established -- in the various international courts. The preeminent principle is that all original material published on the web is the exclusive intellectual property of the originator whether copyright is claimed or not. Such material may not be copied and distributed by anyone else unless specific permission is granted by the copyright owner.
