We're looking for more information about Private Cyril John Rowland, Regimental Number 14721143, served with the Suffolk Regiment and died October 16th 1944, age 19. Cyril John Rowland was the son of Percy and Annie Rowland, of Childrey, Berkshire. He is buried @ Venray War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Any information is welcome about William George like War Diaries, Personal Information, Photos or Relatives whome may be contacted. This research is in purpose of making a commemoration book with all kind of information about the Soldiers who are buried in Venray War Cemetery later on.

    Many thanks in advance

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick
I am working on a project to research and commemorate all the men from WWII on the War Memorials from a number of villages in what was Berkshire but now Oxfordshire. They run along the foot of the Berkshire Downs near the famous White Horse. One is Pte Cyril John Rowland (14721148) who was with 1st Suffolks. He was killed on 16 Oct 1944 in the attack on Venray.
Did anyone have a photo of him (or know where I can find one - even in a group)?

Although I have an amount of family history anything extra on his war service would be useful.

I have the book 'the Suffolk Regiment 1928 to 1946' by WN Nicholson which is quite detailed on the day but any extra maps or detail which would help me pin down when in the day he died would be useful.

    Many thanks
    Tony

    Tony,

I just did an online search "suffolk" + "venray" site:ww2talk.com and it returned a small number of threads here. Just in case that helps.

    Hi Tony,

I don't have a picture of Pte Rowland. I'm the adopter of his grave in Venray and I didn't find any photo of him during my research.
