Please can you help me, in 1974-1976 I worked with a smashing person on maintenance at a factory, his name is/was William Taylor he was an old vet from North Africa, Sicily, Italy and finished up in Greece at the end when their civil war was on. He was in the Reme/Liverpool Welsh and I believe they were attached to the 40th armoured, he lived in Birmingham around Smethwick, Warley area. He told me loads of stories about what went on out there. Could you possibly help me with his service record. Being on this forum it seems everything is possible.

    Thanks

Not sure how to go about getting a service record if you are not next of kin.
Someone should be along soon to advise.

MOD full explanation ref "Request for Service records of deceased Service personnel" can be found using the link below:
    https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records

In effect anyone can apply without the consent of NOK, but if the death was under 25 yrs the MOD will limit the type of information disclosed. With the consent of NOK, MOD will supply full details, regardless of these time limits.

An application is in any case dependant on the applicant supplying a copy of death certificate as well as the usual fee.

In order to find this person it will be necessary to have some more information about him. Searching Ancestry for example, there are too many of them to be able to check out which one he is, if you can recall any further information about his family life, married?, wifes name?, parents names? to help narrow down the search would be great and hopefully find a date of birth for him.

The truth of the matter is this, I left the company where Bill and I worked together, and as usual you are always going to give him a ring and it never happens.
If we had finished doing a breakdown on one of the presses, and we had finished early and put everything away and it was up and running, we would go and have a cup of tea in the shanty, sometimes, something would happen and Bill would say "That reminds me of so and so" and a story would come out, it could of been Italy or North Africa, he didn't say to much about Greece. I remember one time our boss came in, and he must of been listening to what we had been saying and he said " Come on Bill stop getting your knees brown we have a press that has broken down"
Fast forward to 2014 and I get lucky and this site is recommended to me, its been absolutely great being on this forum so much knowledge and you guy's interfacing about different events. It all came back to me about Bill especially talking to Tom Canning about his time in Italy
It was a shot in the dark, next time I am back in England I will go to where he used to live.

    Thanks a lot
