I play a WW2 inspired video game and run a milsim unit in it. There's been much debate over what ranks you'd realistically see in an infantry division. The biggest debate is if Warrant Officers were included or if they were strictly in the Army Air Corps. If someone could shed some light on the situation I would appreciate it, because I know the rank was used then, but have no knowledge of it being used in an infantry division. Thank you for your time!
Are you looking at a British Div or a US one? From my old notes there were a little over 200 WO I and WO II ranks in a British Inf Div of 1944-45, while a US Inf Div of the same period was a more modest 44 WOs. In British Army usage, WO IIs filled posts of Company/Squadron/Battery Serjeant-major, or specialist technical roles in REME units for example, while WO Is were Regimental Serjeant-majors. Gary
