Prior to D-day, the headquarters of 1st US Army was in Bristol, obviously a good location given that the US invasion forces were based mainly in the westof England. I am attempting to do some research on the subject and I would be grateful for any information about either this Army HQ prior to the invasion, or everyday life in Bristol during the same period. Thanks.
Clifton College, one of the city's leading public schools, was used as the headquarters of the US 1st Army also see http://www.fishponds.freeuk.com/ http://www.fishponds.freeuk.com/memmain.htm for luftwaffe attacks on Bristol and the effects. and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/A1061759 for a little on Bristol in WW2 hopethis helps
