    I believe what you are seeing is actually monitoring robots. However, these robots (spiders) are automatically browsing the forum for search engines like Google etc., rather than following you around.

    I just viewed who was online & one 'guest' was a proper visitor from the UK not a bot scouring the internet.
    Now we have 3 members & 1 guest.

    Googlebots etc.

    They hit a page - see eg. 'Stolpi' as a link, and follow it.
    It's part of how Google's search indexing works - they follow repeated links, bold links, links with lots of other people looking at them etc. etc. etc.

    They do seem to follow more active chaps on a given site, eg. I noticed for a while after becoming Admin they followed me everywhere they were allowed to follow.

    There's obviously more complex stuff going on, Google being clever bastards, but it's nothing to worry about - just a part of how search engines work. It's happening all the time, but on sites like this you can actually watch them ramble.

    At your ripe old age of 50+, paranoia is setting in:D. I for one will not log in every time I glance at the forum. If I want to add something to a thread...IE this one, I will log in.
    If not, I will generally review postings as a bystander.

    PS...make sure your doors are locked at night.
