    Hi all,

I've recently found that the Guards Armoured Division trained for D-Day at Thoresby Hall. Could anyone please help me with anymore information on this as I'm wanting to find out Nottinghamshire's contributions to D-Day.

What kinds of training did they undertake?
How long they were in Nottinghamshire for?
How long the training was each day ?

Also, does anyone have any information on the Guards Armoured Division training at Nottinghamshire and their interactions with the Bevin Boys. I have seen one post on this on here!
    Thanks!

Here's a link to War Diary January '44 that you may find interesting Hannah, and one type of training mentioned within: "TEWT" (Training Entirely Without Troops).

    WO 171/1258 - 3 Scots Guards - January 1944 - TracesOfWar.com

Most usually officers only, clipboards, map and compass, note taking etc.

The late Ian Fenwick made a lovely depiction of same in drawing a cartoon earlier in the war (1940).

The WDs will be key for your research; they will give you other names and locations to look at to discover what was happening at Thoresby and environs.

Good luck with all your research.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Have edited title, now relates directly to query.

For info, the full Introduction from 6th Guards Tank Brigade by Patrick Forbes, pages 1-15.
Pages 10-12 are relevant to time in Notts, the earlier pages cover their organisation, training, etc.

Also posting pages 58-59 which relate to 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards - but Thoresby is mentioned by name.
