Can Anyone Tell Me If My Grandfather Was A Kohima

    Can anyone tell me if my grandfather George Cherry. was a Kohima. any info gratefully. received

    The 4th West kents were part the 161st Indian Infantry Brigade 2nd infantry division which formed part of the garrison

    Therefore if he was part of the west kentss at the time then yes, he was at kohima.

    I think this needs to be qualified a bit withthe word "probably". It would need much more detailed research to establish that he was in fact there and not on some kind of detached duty or in hospital at the time.

    Anyone know if the unit war diaries or other records are availavle at the PRO? May be something there.

    This is my best picture of my grandfather George he is in the top row left of the rip
    any body know what the sign carrier would mean. Also one of the men in it looks like Harman the VC winner at Kohima.

    Unfortunately the picture wont transfer to my photo editior so I could not zoom in to get a better picture

    also,

    And at dusk Kohima was shelled by all these enemy guns together. This concentration coincided with a really ferocious Japanese attack from Jail Hill against the thin line of ā€˜Cā€™ and ā€˜Dā€™ Companies.

    on the bottom row first on the right. Do you think this looks like the VC winner Harman. Also has anybody been to the regiment museum. any body heard of Panter Pull my grandad must have spent somew leave there.
