Bomb Disposal On the Continent?

Discussion in 'NW Europe' started by classicalyorkist, May 29, 2018.

  1. Long story short, in the absence of a service record (don't ask ) for my Grandfather I would love some general info on bomb disposal/ordnance disposal in NW Europe. What would the soldiers have done? Is there a book about this subject I can read?

  3. To be honest I am somewhat without much of a clue. I know my grandfather was involved with making safe bombs/ordnance on the continent during ww2. Is this disarming Nazi booby traps or disarming unexploded ordnance in the way of objectives? Does anyone know of this kind of thing taking place? Somewhere I have a bag of defused german bomb and grenade fuses he kept as souvenirs. Really any help is appreciated.

As you have been advised send off for the service records
Without them you are making assumptions and possibly muddling the research path.
By all means ask away but without more detail your end ,you will get generic answers

Once you have the records you can then ask more questions here which will be answered in more detail.
As you are aware there are a wealth of WW2 experts on this forum which you wont find anywhere else.
Get a copy of military service records

dont give up get the records and crack on

    regards

Was your Grandfather in the Army? Got a name/photograph?

All three services had a role, some of which overlapped, from clearing the ports to allow men and supplies into the continent, to dealing with minefields, clearing ex-Luftwaffe airfields, and disposing of large quantities of ordnance at bomb dumps, etc. As the Germans retreated they left lots of booby-traps in their wake.
