The '25' with GHQ bar under will be 2 RHA and the '20' is actually paired with the 3 Corps sign (a slip of the keyboard, I assume ?). It belonged to 54 LAA Regt. I wonder if Drew can pin down where those two units were alongside each other ?

Hi Craig. It is even more unusual - an office truck. In theory there was one of these in every battalion, but the only other action pic I have seen is in one of the 3 Div histories which I do not own.

Interesting , never seen one before, it reminds me of the German personnel type bodies.

Searchlight lorry ( Leyland Retreiver ? ) displaying AOS NO. 48 which ties in nicely with '3 Searchlight Regiment RA' from 'the book':)

Edit - wrong hubs for Leyland maybe a Guy fbax.

a closer look at that truck reveals a short body and the front end looks like a Morris CDF 30cwt, not the normal truck to see with a searchlight in the back but these were not normal times

First I think the title 'the book' should apply to your book. A real masterpiece thank you.

This lorry certainly looks short but it may be the angle of the photo. The census number on the back 'L33032' is consistent with it being a Guy 6x4 S/L, according to the Chilwell list.

I agree, it's too big to be a 30cwt, maybe the body side door being open makes it look short .

I try to test my black and white colour recognition with clear images like this one. Especially when they're a nice light cobalt RE blue. It improves my success rate no end.:)

186 Transportation Construction Company R.E. according to Andrew's book.

    Hi Darren

Hard to pin down! However, the fact that it is a Dodge 3/4 ton weapons carrier suggests to me that it is in the Far East as this is the area where these US trucks were used the most by UK forces, both during and after the war. The 'AoS' sign has no number, but a white bar across the top which (again) suggests to me that it is post war (though not unknown during the war), but the Z registration means it was before 1949 (from memory that was when they changed to the 12AB34 registration, officially at least). However, whatever the caption says, that was not an RA truck, but either Armoured Corps or RASC (diagonal split). The formation sign is a bit small to identify, but could be Malaya Command. I wonder if this is one of the early casualties of the Malaya Insurgency.

One thing is certain; it is not a 1940 picture!
