    Hi all,
Hoping that someone will have the answer for me, I'm sure you will.

Recent visit to Oosterbeek found me in the woods off Van Tienhovenlann, near the camp site.
I saw lots of damage to a number of trees along a couple of the tracks through the woods to the north of the lane.
I read some years ago somewhere that the germans put down a massive amount of MG fire in this area to stop the airborne in withdrawl getting through to the east and that many trees showed signs of this. Is this the result?
If so the damage seems very severe for MG fire and in a very limited area.
Can anyone confirm what caused the damage and if from 1944 what weapons caused it?
I have read a number of accounts of the battle of the woods and spoken to a number of 4 Brigade vets over the years but they have not mentioned that much focused and concentrated firepower being aimed at them. Surely it has to be something like 2cm weaponary?

    All assistance appreciated.
    SM
