    Hi,
Trying to find out any details on 582 Coy, RASC during 43-45.
My mother in law's dad served with this unit (6849846 Harry Underwood), being an ex-serviceman myself and therefore an obvious military expert, she has high hopes! Any assistance would be very greatlfully received.
    Regards
    Ali.

I have the history of the RASC in WW2 and will see if they are mentioned.

I had a look at the book, but it is 653 pages long, with no proper index! o_O

You might want to see it out yourself. Details are:

Anon. - 'The Story of the Royal Army Service Corps 1939-1945' (G Bell and Sons Ltd 1955).

Hi Ali, currently researching my great grandad war service and seen he was assigned to the 582 coy, RASC. Just wondering if you found any more information as this thread is one of the only hits on google.
    Cheers

The book, the Story of the Royal Army Service Corps only mentions a relatively small number of units. The best source will be the war diaries at Kew. However, searching for 582 Coy or RASC in the Advance Search seems only to throw up Royal Engineers or an Italian Pioneer Company, nothing for the unit number under RASC

Only document I have to hand at the moment as I’m in work currently, we’ve got his full service record from MoD but it only says when he was part of the BHOR doesn’t go into any detail. Another document says he was assigned to the 1682 arty Regt. PL.

Doesnt show if that document is pre or post 1945 - so seeing his service record would help

Its BAOR by the way [British Army Of the Rhine]

OK - I think the 1682 reference is

1682 Pl. | The National Archives
    Reference: WO 171/6451
    Description:
    1682 Pl.
    Date: 1945 Jan.- Dec.
Held by: The National Archives, Kew
    Legal status: Public Record(s)
Closure status: Open Document, Open Description
If you also check out this page it shows the RASC connection Search results: 1682 | The National Archives

582 appears from the sheets to be after 1945, in fact 1946 and is probably the Reserve Co, highly unlikely there will be a WD for them
