My Grandfather joined the Royal Horse Guards (Blues and Royals) in 1939. From December 1940 he was posted into the 2nd Household Cavalry Motor Battalion, which later became 2nd Household Cavalry Regiment (2HCR).
He was a Trooper, Driver operator, mainly in Daimler Dingo's (and maybe Staghounds). He deployed to Europe in July 1944, where he served until being transferred to the Reserve in May 1946, having been re-designated as a Royal Horse Guard.
    Can anyone tell me;
*During his time in Europe (and 2HCR) which capbadge and unit designation would he have worn?
*Other than vehicle markings (Green over blue square with white 44), did 2HCR have it's own capbadge, shoulder titles, etc which grandad would have worn?
I would have enquired at the Household Cavalry Museum, but like most museums they are closed at the moment.
    Hoping someone can help.
    Regards

    Hi,

Does someone have the wardiary for the 2nd Household Cavalry Regiment from 18/19/20/21 september 1944?

Looking for info on Recce missions into the Maas and Waal area.

    Best regards,

Hello, if anyone can post details on the forum I'd also be grateful, my Grandfather was a Driver/Operator (Dingo's) in 2HCR at the time and I am researching what he got up to!!

    Regards

Very many thanks for sharing, really useful. If there's anybody else researching 2HCR (particularly B Sqn) I'd be delighted to hear from you. I have found Peter STORER at the Household Cavalry Archive in Windsor really helpful on matters 2HCR.
    Best Regards for 2021.

Do you have september 24th as well?
I read the Household Cavalry entered my home town Boekel early in the morning that day as first allied unit, followed that day by the Coldstream Guards.
The town was later occupied by the 1Bn Hamshire Regiment.
Boekel is direct south under Volkel.

    Many thanks...!

Here you'll find a movie shot by doctor Jetten from Boekel from the liberation of Uden at 19-09-1944 and Boekel on 24-09-1944 during Market Garden.
You can see the 5th Bn of the Coldstream Guards drinken with the locals and celebrating.

Was the 2nd Household Cavalry attached to VIII or XXX Corps during Market Garden?
Because I've seen a report that says that they were attached to VIII in August 1944, what looks strange because they were the scouts for the Guards Armored Division...and they were XXX Corps? Any thoughts...?
    Thank you.
