Hi All, I am asking in anyone can give me and my friend guidance in the gathering of information as we are trying to trace the units or theatre of my friends father. The information that we have gathered or cleamed through the National Archives and various other places are very slim pickings. Anyway his father information that we have is this: Royal Engineers, 2016150 Sapper Leanard Edward Rix, DoB 10 April 1917, Was wounded in Western desert on 12 November 1942, Unit 141 Field Park Squadron.Casualty No 979, Release number 127898 28 August 1946. Thats is all that we can find on his father but he does have pictures of his father looking after vehicles like the LRDG Chev's and with his mates plus officer. His father left after the war and never really talked about the events etc. My friend is former navel captain etc and he is having problems getting anything than the above information also he paid to get more information and that went quiet too. Does anyone have these types of problems or is this all he can expect to get information wise? Any help in this matter would be very appreciated thanks
they way to go are service records official source below date of birth and death cert is the only requirement and £30 Get a copy of military service records once they have the service records then they can get the war diaries a couple of members on the forum offer a copy service from the National Archives at a reasonable rate. use the official route they will not find anything on paid for sites except a lighter pocket regards Clive
Hi As with all these searches the only way in reality to search for someones WW2 service history is to start by obtaining their Official service records, these are ONLY available from the MOD, and the forms are on this link Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide TD
hi Tricky My friend asked for his father's service record and it was left cold ie no one got back to him. Its been 1-2yrs now and nothing has come to him about his father field operation activities.
Where did he apply did he use the forms in the link provided phone number to try and track them down if he did apply via that route 0345 600 9663
Sry he went through the Mod release service records and has got nothing back and his friend was in Mod at staffing levels and he got nothing
I suspect that he didn't use the forms etc - If I'd sent off £30 and no one got back I wouldn't have let it lie there.
Hi Robert, He did fill out the forms and sent it in with the £30 paid but like I said it has gone cold. He was told that if he does not hear anything then they won't have any news but will talk with him when I get back of holiday next week. Thanks for the chat thou guys it is helping
I think what you are referring to here is Casualty list No 979, 12 November 1942 is the date of the list, the date of casualty was 23 October 1942.
