Not sure where to put this one but just having bought my latest zippo lighter and knowing that they have a long history with American forces in several conflicts I was wondering what fuel is used "in the field". I doubt there were cans of lighter fuel around so wondered if ordinary petrol was used. Anyone any idea ?

Bit daft I know but a point of interest.

I used petrol in mine when I smoked if I never had any lighter fuel around.....It did produce a lot of black smoke though :)

Normal petrol works alright but it is a bit dodgy in Zippos; dries out too quick, black smoke, makes your fag taste funny, rots holes in whatever pocket your lighter's kept in, along with any skin it finds through said holes, and sometimes bursts into flames in entirely the wrong way... quite funny when that happens (to someone else) down the pub though.

    Bris -
first - get yourself a Sherman Tank -

next - stand close to it - your lighter will work - first time

    Cheers
