I would like to know who financed this memorial. I have been told tha LT/Cmdr sold his medals to finace this memorial. It has recenly been adopted by Submarine command at Faslane
Here's the link to the UKNIWM entry: http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.44489/fromUkniwmSearch/1 There's also some other sites which may help: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/27/a2755127.shtml http://www.submarineheritage.com/gallery_flotilla.htm http://www.welfreighter.info/ http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/miscellaneous/tirpitz_kaafjord_then_and_now/tirpitz_kaafjord_then_and_now.html http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/history/tiropersource.html http://web.ukonline.co.uk/chalcraft/sm/xcraft.html http://www.buteonline.com/news/7250-midget.htm http://www.dorsetsubmariners.org.uk/main/articles/xcraft.htm http://ahoy.tk-jk.net/Letters/Trainingbasesformidgetsub.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_commando_frogmen http://www.alliedspecialforces.org/12submarineflotillarollofhonour.htm http://www.bibliotheca.org.uk/links/veterans/veterans-uk.html for HMS Bonaventure contact There is a web site with some photos of the unveiling which I came across last year but annoyingly I can't find it now, hence all the other links trying to find it. There is another memorial with the same names at Port Bannatyne's War memorial on Bute, and also a memorial garden near St Ninian's Church. Some of the details are wrong on both memorials if you check them against the CWGC. Cheers Adam
Here it is. It's only got one of the photos I saw before but there is also some contact details of someone who I'm sure would know someome involved in the background to the financing of the memorial: http://www.underwatertrust.org.uk/
The attached is a Photo I took of the inside of an X craft which is at Duxford. Its more than a little tight in there and I have no idea how they managed it for days at a time.
