Can anyone tell me what the armband in this photograph signifies. The man wearing it died in the early part of 1942, he had served in the RFA during WW1.

I believe that you have found the answer. The gentleman in question lived in a small coastal village in Northumberland, there was a RAF station to the south of where he lived.

    Many thanks.

I have just found 2 or 3 newspaper articles concerning the Observer Corps and they mention the village that 'my man' lived in. Thank you AB64 for pointing me in the correct way.

Yep, it's an early Observer Corps armlet, worn until 1941.
