Someone on the telly said this. If you want to find a vet you had better hurry, as in a short while they will be hard to find, the very youngest, if still is 85/6 the oldest 100.
Stone me am I that old? YUP I am.
    Sapper:rolleyes:

Will you please do me a favour and keep getting old (and hale) for a number of years? Or at least allow me to catch you? Thank you.

Age is only a state of mind. I've had that many 21st birthdays now I've lost count! :D

Sapper we will be talking with you for many, many more years yet. :)

Don't take any notice of Brian....... he's probably just forgotten to take his tablets :)
(Only kidding mate !......... good to see you posting again !)

As Wendy intimated, being old is purely a question of mind over matter.

If you dont mind, then it just doesn't matter :)

It's sad that the WW2 vets are going. I wonder what will happen when the last is gone.

Here in Norway they still carry some weight when shouting at the politicians. My maternal grandad died last week, and through him I lost the last direct link to the war (paternal grandad died in 2008).

If us younger lads raise our voice nobody bothers. Not popular wars and the public doesn't care. WW2 was a peoples war, the volunteers of today don't have the same weight.

Then there is the issue of perception of the war once the veterans are gone. Too many apologists are cropping up now. What will that be like in the future? There is a lot of teens who are impressed with the "cool" uniforms and Tigers of the Wehrmacht, and try to sweep the atrocities under the carpet. They were fighting for their country etc.

    My foot.

I'll second Urqhs post. We love you old buggers. Keep healthy, I always enjoy reading your posts.

I have claimed over many years that I have the intention to live until I am 150 years old - my accountant said it's the only way to get all your money back from the Government ....and being Scottish - that's important !
    Cheers

I'm from Sunnmøre, and the popular definition of a Sunnmøring is someone who can buy something from a Jew and sell it to a Jock and make a profit.

God knows how lon I'd have to live to get back my dues.

This site and the world in general would be a much sadder place without the distinguished 'vets' to remind us first hand of the experiences and sacrifice of WW2.
Those of us that have an interest, at whatever level, but no direct experience just can't portray what it was really like. That's why we need to record vet's memoirs NOW. The likes of Ron, Sapper, Driver-Op et al have and still are doing a wonderful job.
    Long may you continue Gents.

when you consider it was over 90 years later when the last of the W.W.1 veterans
died ..so i reckon many W.W.2 veterans will be with us for a long time yet ..
