Although MN for usually the merchant navy but that does not fit with the title 48th. The only army unit I have found online that seems to fit is the 48th Madras Native Infantry. There were many Madras Native Infantry units. They all survived into the second half of the 19C & some into the 1930's. As this possibly makes it pre WW2 you could also try posting on greatwarforum.org Perhaps it refers to the third choice of crockery used by the 48th in their mess. Travers
Really need some context i.e. where was it found place or country might help. Could be this Regt in India/Burma 1st Northants (48th of foot) Assume China is the accommodation block.
Thank you for both Replies , It was found in a British/ American ww2 Camp prior to D Day in the United Kingdom. Might have seen usage in ww1
