I am trying to find ww2 maps of Holland and Germany at 1/25,000 scale so I can plot my fathers movement during the war. I will list the maps that I need. If anyone knows where I can get them other than the Archives please let me know. Or, if you are willing to share please contact me. I know this is a long shot but I will list all of the maps needed in hopes of finding even one. Thanks everyone, Buggsy Netherlands - sheet number; 19 S.W. (Venraj) 27 S.W. (Nederweert) Germany - 4505, 4506, 4602, 4603, 4605 (Moers), 4702, 4703 (Hardt), 4704 (Anrath), 4803 (MuchenGladbach), 4902, 5001, 5003 (Linnich), 5102 (Herzogenrath)
Have you tried contacting the map room at the British Library. Never visited myself but I understand they hold copies of all WW2 GSGS maps.
Thanks for your reply. I have not tried the British Library yet. I have received some maps from the U.S. Archives but they cost a fortune. Maybe the British Library is more cost effective I don't really know about that. In any case I was hoping that some of these maps might be available through the members on this site. My fathers Artillery unit, the 774th. Field Artillery, was in the 9th. U.S. Army which was along side the British Army throughout most of the war. If you have any information on the British map Library I would appreciate any information that you could give me. Thanks again for your reply, Buggsy
Here you go Buggsy: http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelprestype/maps/cataloguesmapsandcartographicmaterials/cataloguesofmaps.html Good luck
I will try and attach a map I already have. If it doesn't work I need the Nord de Guerre maps with the sheet numbers I listed in scale 1:25,000. I believe sheet #5001 is actually in the Netherlands (Venlo) maybe. Buggsy
Hello Buggsy, It looks as if Dotkadata has the two GSGS4427 1:25,000 maps, Venray and Nederweert, that you are looking for. Also they have some of the German maps. Unfortunately you have to pay to download them. I cannot find any site that has these for a free download. Brigham Young University have plenty of the GSGS4414 1:25,000 maps of Germany, although these are the wartime maps, they are later 1950s editions with the Universal Transverse Mercator rather than the Nord de Guerre grid. You can view these without charge. Regards, Richard
Thanks Richard, I will check out Dotkadata. I haven't heard of them. Hopefully they are cheaper then the National Archives. It's worth a look. Buggsy
Hi all, I wanted to let you all know that the Library of Congress has WW2 maps of Holland at 1:25,000 scale for free download. Most of them are of Northern Holland but I did find Asten and Marheeze there. Every little bit helps! Thought it might be a useful site for those researching the British Army or for Market Garden. Go to there website and type in Holland 1:25,000 and you should be there. Enjoy
