I know this is old ground, but is there yet a place where WW2 Medal Cards (equivalent of WW1 MIC's) can be viewed or downloaded? I would like to start researching my Grandfathers WW2 record in the Army, and his brother's in RAF Bomber Command As yet, I have very little to go on. I am waiting for other relatives to check through their 'lofts' for anything that might help. I know from my history researching WW1 Relatives, that the MIC is a great place to start. Thanks Colin
Colin Funny....... I never stopped to think that there was a medal card for Ww2, I certainly didn't get a copy alogside my other record sheets when i sent away for them after the war. My rack of 5 is covered, of course. by individual references in various record sheets but certainly no individual medal card such as those held in ww1. I wait for others to tell me one way or another. Ron
Hi I am not aware of them, usually noted in service records. You can write to here to enquire - https://www.gov.uk/the-ministry-of-defence-medal-office Scroll down until you see Postal enquiries about medals should be sent to the address below regards Robert
If you really want to know you'll need to spend 30 quid each for their service recordfs from the MoD. There's isnt really a cheaper option.
Robert, Thanks very much for your link in post #3. I contacted the Ministry of Defence Medal Office and may be able to get some information. My grandfather's Service Record is very light on detail, so the medal entitlement information could be very useful to me. Just for other people's future reference- they wrote back and told me that before I could proceed, I would need a death certificate and an application form signed by the legal next of kin. Many thanks again, and to everyone for their tips. Chris
Hi all This is probably not the page to ask but, From reading the above looks like, they are not available. I have been doing ww1 research and the medal cards had service numbers on, i'm looking for my grandads and great uncles service numbers before I can start any searches, anybody know where I can find these?? Many thanks in advance Rachel
If they served in WW2 you can apply to the MoD for their service records using their date of birth , you do not need their numbers.
