You’re welcome. Skill with a needle and thread may not have been accompanied by a knowledge of medals & ribbons.

Demobilised men desirous of receiving their campaign medals had to complete an application form available from the Post Office. Application forms were issued from late 1948 onwards.

Thank you all who answered, added comments and information. Seems that the joining of medals to ribbons was done not by a professional, as the stitching at the end of the ribbons is a bit frayed. The small box containing the medals is a little brown, barely big enough for medals and ribbons, and the small folded card.

    Hi,

I did ask you to attach the page where the queried entries were listed as it’s difficult to appreciate context from both your transcript and the extracts you’ve posted and there may be more clues on the full page.

From what I can see it is a Chaplains file - treated as an officer for admin purposes - and the extracts are from a sheet from his B199 record of service document?

Elsewhere on the form it should mention the places he served.

On the basis of what you’ve posted all I can suggest is -

    1. If he joined late in the war and only served in UK then the award of the War Medal would be his only entitlement.

    2. If he enlisted earlier in the war and served in a theatre of war (locations should be on his file) then the stamp is a 1948 Medal Office Stamp suggesting he was issued with 4 campaign medals (including the War Medal).

The C/6 is likely relating to the sub section within the officers medal department that dealt with Army Chaplains.

We have had a similar query before: Medal Entitlement Question

I think that the 4 is part of the issue date, so issued 4 [missing month] 1948.

Agree that the ‘C/6’ is some sort of administrative code.
