    Andy,
Just wondering if you are going to try finding the exact spot that Sepp Dietrich spent in the ditch?

    Question Two:

Does anyone know the exact location of the Chesires involved in the defence at Wormhoult?

I've identified they were No.s 7 and 9 Platoons from 'D' Company, 4th Chesires. I suspect one of the Platoons (The one I'm interested in) was West of Wormhout probably near the D17 and suspect these along with members of 'A' Company shot up Sepp Dietrich's car.

    Cheers for any help

Andy - You use the map cordinate translater that someone posted details of on this site last year. Once you get the hang of it, it's great.

    The "Coordinates Translator"

    Cheers - Rob

    Rob I don't get that site....What do I haveto do/settings to enter a 6 Fig. Grid Ref?

    Cheers

Andy, you need to prefix it with a grid code off of the Nord du Guerre index map and use the Nord du Guerre setting - vH in the case of Wormhoudt (a lucky guess on my part). It will then take you to a lat/long plot on MapQuest where you can zoom in. Better still, note the lat/long and bang it into GE.

PDF of screenshots attached to save me a few thousand words... and you might recognise the grid ref.

There is a deliberate mistake in a couple of the screenshots - I used vS not vH - you can see the effect, the zoomed out map drops you down near Paris. Apologies for 'fakling' those pages, I didn't want to go back in the browser and risk losing the end result.

I've found a lot of grid ref's at the end of a file from the witness's who went back to the area after the war with the investigators ad plot all their key movements.....

Bloody hell that is good........I've just found a wooden hut that a stretcher bearer was in from 'A' Company !

I'm going to bed very happy !

    Cheers Andrew/Rob!

Can anyone identify 'Estaminet St. Hubert' in Wormhout?

It should be somewhere near the D916 Cassel Road where the bridge crosses the river.

The caption from the file reads:

On the other side of the road near the 'Estaminet St. Hubert' there was a German Staff car with two German soldiers stood next to it.

South of the 'La Peene Becque' River.

    Cheers

    "estaminet st hubert" in Google!

A slightly different approach yields these.

Ah - this is the site I think I was thinking of. The Wormhout thumbnails aren't there but the bigger photos open. On second thoughts, I think both these sites are pointing to the same set (33 in each)

Can anyone identify where the railway line used to run through Wormhout?

I suspect it's to the North of the town but can't see any signs of an old track on Google Earth.

    Cheers

Does anyone know what Royal Artillery unit(s) were in Wormhout on the 27th/28th May 1940 and or any information regarding where they were specifically and what they were doing?

I've discovered Gunner Richard Parry was 242 Battery, 69th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery (The only RA survivor from the massacre that I'm aware of at this stage) and he appears to have been travelling through Wormhout at the time of the attack on his way to Dunkirk (Source: His Affidavit). Although I'm not exactly sure where - One account suggests the North of the town and another suggests the South.

I'm also aware that 48 Div. had 18th, 24th, 68th Field and 53rd Anti-Tank Regiments, Royal Artillery on their Orbat so I'm assuming it would be eliments of one or more of these defending Wormhout?

    Any details greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Andy

Have a word with the airborne fraternity about 53 A/Tl Regt - it later became an Airlanding Lght Regt, so I imagine they will have hoovered up all the histories.

The histories don't identify the field gunners involved - back to the war diaries...
