    [Handwritten additions:]
1938, August 5 - Reported by M.A. as retired or dismissed. Probably over differences of opinion re Czech crisis.
1938, October 31 - Retired “at own request”, rank Gen. Oberst a.d.

[This single entry inserted from separate page:] 1942, June 3 - Living in "comfortable confinement" in BRASOV; the Germans recently demanded that he should be given up to them, but Rumanians refused. Censor.

    1944, July 20 - Suicide

Has the reputation of being an extremely efficient Staff Officer, and capable of a vast amount of detailed work. Very gifted. Although nice-mannered and kind-hearted, he is not very easy to serve, as he tends to fuss his subordinates by too great an interference in minor matters. His ideas do not appear to have developed at all in recent years and he finds himself not only out of sympathy with National-Socialistic ideas and ideals, but losing the sympathy of many junior officers. However, in his mind the Army always comes before the Party. Thinks that Hitler is taking much too active a part in the control of the Army.

    [Handwritten addition]
Speaks English and would like to be invited to this country.
