It's got the King's Crown on it so I'll guesstimate it's WW2, other ranks, the Occifer's version probably was the one that had a 'silver centre'.
Might get more joy posting your question here...

Sorry mate, not a clue, welcome to the forum.

    no they all did.
All ranks wore a bi-metal version of either brass or bronze with a white metal overlay in the centre.

Owen, as I said a guestimate on my part... I've got a couple of WW2 Canadian Parachute Battalion cap badges, one's plain brass, the Occifer's brass with it's parachute in 'silver'.

I had a look and can't tell for sure. It may be as simple as the overlay is gone. I have one of the Midland Regiment, for example, where there is just no overlay. All my KC badge of your badge have the overlay.

Why don't you go join up with these guys:

hey, who is this? Pte Kwan here, 1 Pl Gren Coy.

the cap badge in the picture is actually supposed to be made of bronze and was worn by officers before they switched to embroided cap badges. I can't remember who had it, but either the RSM or DSM had one for a while.

Just guessing here - but it might be a circa 1950 type badge - or even after Helyer revamped all the services and lumped all into one - ruining a perfectly good army - making them into peacekeepers - although the lads in Afghanistan appear to be going in the right direction again - the RCR is still the Premier regiment - with the PPCLI and the Vandoos..
    Cheers

The badge you have shown is the 1936 to 1952 brass cap badge worn by all ranks. For some reason, the white metal overlay has become detached from it. There was also a chocolate brown version of this cap badge worn by some officers with the service dress uniform, but the brass badge as worn by all ranks with the battle dress uniform. I served with The Royals many years ago.

Let me know if you need more information.
