    Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea where 310 ITC was? I understand ITC=Infantry training centre. My Gt Uncle joined the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1940 and trained at 310 ITC which is mentioned several times in his papers. I though that 310 might be too high a number for an ITC, so could it be Company, instead of Centre in this case?

    Thanks and Regards, Steve

    Hi Steve

I've just found three further references to Lancashire Fusiliers men and 310 ITC on this site

I've been researching my grandfather's and uncle's training experiences ; but have not seen a reference to a 310 ITC . From what I've read infantry training was regimental depot based in 1939/40 ; but was then reorganised into ITCs responsible for the training of more than one regiment .

The East Yorks Regt depot was in Beverley - Lee at Acre obtained the War Diaries for me - but 5 ITC at Richmond NYorks trained the Manchester Regt, Green Howards and EYR.

Do you have his service record? There experts on the forum - they've certainly helped me - should be able to make sense of 310 ITC

    Hi 4bn,

Thanks for the links. I had a good search on this site as well as the net and the Lancashire fusiliers website, still not able to find exactly where 310 ITC was. I do have the service record, and now that I have spent some time with it, and used this site, it is fairly clear, apart form the 'MDS' question which has been answered, the only outstanding question is this one.

The records include his TF papers and his Service and Casualty form, both of which indicate that straight after enlistment he went to 310 ITC. I was wondering whether it was at Bury, which I beleive was the Lancashire Fusiliers depot.

    Hi Steve

I thought you might have seen those links; but thought it was interesting that there are three other refs to 310 ITC for the same Regt, which suggests that it's not just a recording blip by a clerk - unless it was a multiple blip!

I used Acre's War Diary search engine and just searched on '310'; there were 42 hits but none for an ITC. The only match covering 1940 was for the 310 Searchlight Battery, which seem to have been based in Essex
    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?CATREF=WO+166/3140&SearchInit=4&SearchType=6&j

    I did find a 308 ITC war diary for 1939/40 WO 166/4767

I also have a couple of unanswered issues on the service records I'm looking at: it appears that 5 ITC don't have a War Diary.

    Good Luck.

My apologies, I meant that I had searched on this site meaning WW2 talk, so I hadn't previously see the links that you posted! It is good to know that it was not a blip, unless it was the same clerk who kept making the same mistake! I have looked at the National Archives using the Discovery Tool, but could not find any reference to 310 ITC.

    I'll keep hunting

The individual regimental depots were 'rebranded' as ITCs Aug/Sep 1939 (based on regimental ITC war diary start dates) and operated as such until around Aug 1941 when they were merged into the better-known multi-regiment ITCs.

I've not seen the earlier numbers before, though.

    GeneralList,

Thanks for your message which fits with my own thoughts, I might ask the LF museum for their thoughts.
