    Hi all,

My Great Uncle joined the Royal Navy as an Engineer Stoker in May 1940. He seems to have ended up as a Chief Petty Officer Stoker and was still serving in 1945/46 - this information is from a few images and a newspaper article I have (no other info in article).

I have no other records that detail his service but I was told he served aboard Minesweepers.

There is one image I have that I have always found fascinating. It shows my Great Uncle, bare chested front and centre surrounded by his colleagues - all rough Stoker types!

There are parts of the ship visible and I've often wondered if the TYPE of ship could be determined from them. I know it will be impossible to identify the ships name but any feedback would be great.

That is a minesweeping winch on the right. Fairly small winch for a small minesweeping craft of which there were a large number. Many were converted trawlers etc.

My Uncle was also on Minesweepers, but he never spoke much about his service. Had to be rescued once when he was washed over-board, he couldn't swim. Sadly don't know the name (s) of any of his ships. IMG_20220323_0003.jpg After he died we found a box with four medals inside. My Uncle in the centre, also a studio photograph. He had hair like this to the day he went AWOL. R.I.P. IMG_20220323_0001.jpg

May want to post it at the International Naval Research Organization. INRO has members with all sorts of knowledge.
