    Hi
Can anyone help my grandfather enlisted in the Prince of Wales Volunteers on 10.8.38. His Certificate of Service under previous service in HM Forces he is listed as serving in Prince of Wales Volunteers ( S.R.) from 10.12.37 until his enlistment date. Would this relate to a form of reserve service?
    Kind regards
    Andy Lovatt

Special Reserve abolished in 1921. Supplementary Reserve formed in 1924.

Thanks for clearing up the SR. Apparently the Supplementary Reserve allowed someone to complete 6 months full time service, to allow rapid training before transfer to reserve status. Why would someone born and bread in Stoke join a South Lancashire reserve unit? Would the fact he was only 16 have something to do with it? His Certificate of Service not showing his date of birth.
