    Hi all

I need some help/ clarification regarding the above unit.

First, a few assumptions on my part.

The unit reference comes from a service record which basically says 'Transferred to Welch Fus w.e.f. 29/6/42 and posted to 10th Bn'. I'm assuming this is the 10th Bn of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

Around August 1942 the 10th Bn R.W.F. was converted into a parachute role and became the 6th Bn, Parachute Regiment and went out to North Africa in 1943. It was then based and involved in operations around the Med.

The problem i'm having is that the service record i'm looking at there is no mention of the 6th Bn PR in it. And therefore it seems to indicate that he stayed with the 10th Bn Welch Fusiliers in the UK till 11.11.43, (until he was shipped out to North Africa, where he joined the 9th Royal Fusiliers as a re-inforcement on 10.12.43).

Maybe i'm missing something obvious, but did the 10th Bn still exist as a 'unit' in the UK? And If not, and he became part of the 6th Bn PR why did he remain in the UK when they went out to the Med? Also why would someone from a Para unit seem to get transferred to the 9th R.F. as a re-inforcement?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The service record is really brief and sparse in details, but i'll try get images/ jpg's of it posted up later

    Thanks in Advance

Royal Welch Fusiliers (seems an error on the original documents)

After conversion 6 (RWF) Para leaves in early April for the Med, so... that doesn't stack.

There is also seemingly no 10 Bn Welch Regiment.

I know a substantial number did not qualify for 6 Para during conversion after... essentially a small mutiny when they discovered they'd lose agricultural leave and opted not to jump - they were then chucked to 158 Brigade.

As for remaining in the UK, perhaps as a batman at 115 Brigade HQ or similar, although 10 RWF was fully replaced by 13 RWF in 115 Brigade... unfortunately Red Dragon by Kemp & Graves isn't a huge amount of use here.

10 RWF's war diary stops in July 1942 and 6 Para's diary starts in August 1942.

    Thanks Andy & Swiper

The Service Record is for http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2099043/WALTERS,%20WILLIAM%20JOHN who was listed as MIA at Anzio after he transferred to 9th Royal Fusiliers in December 1943

Service Record (& other docs) attached

Possibility that 184/42 referenced entry dated 28/7/42 on attachment 5 could say '9th'. Could this be the date he moved from 10th Bn to 9th Bn R.W.F. or 9th Bn R.F. ?
