I do not understand why the cult of not aligning a tie when a suit is worn No idea how this came about. It looks like you dressed in a hurry. Collars do not sit right Smart casual ,sports jacket with a pair of strides, open neck ok Smart suit should be worn with a tie
Probably about the time that designer stubble became de rigueur and an excuse for not bothering to shave. Tim
I join the geezer griping. When did it become okay to wear brown or light tan shoes with crepe soles with blue or black suits? Looks ridiculous.
Oh Dave totally agree Grey suits with light brown pointy shoes is the realm of people who try to sell houses
I had to have a chuckle at this one. I work for an International Law firm and the dress code only enforces ties for client meetings. While it's not something I'm bothered about it did remind me of when I was stranded for a few days in the Czech Republic after a wedding as a baggage trolley drove into the planes engine before take off (being Brno, there were only a handful of direct flights to Blighty a week). We ended up in a shop similar to Matalan to buy some clothes to tide us over and with little choice my old school Grandad had to make do with a polo shirt. He arrived at breakfast wearing it and a tie!
Should You Wear a Suit Without a Tie? Most generally, the answer to this question is no. An entire traditional suit get-up — pants, jacket, shirt, and tie — is not a system of independent pieces, but rather interconnected parts that are designed to be worn together. A suit jacket shouldn’t be worn with different pants than the ones it came with. A dress shirt and tie don’t look good without a jacket. And the full suit doesn’t look complete without a tie. The suit itself is in fact designed with the tie in mind; its lapels, along with the collars of your dress shirt, serve as frames to the neckwear which runs down the center of your chest. A tie then pulls the suited look together and adds a bit of finish and authoritativeness to your outfit. Not to mention, it simply adds a nice bit of color and visual interest to what is otherwise a fairly monochrome ensemble. Wearing a tie with a suit is thus a must for all professional and more formal events and environments. Showing up tieless to a place where everyone else is wearing a tie will make you look kind of dopey — conveying that you’re either lazy (the kind of guy who prefers his own comfort to showing respect for the occasion), superficially rebellious (“Okay, I consent to wearing a suit, but I draw the line at putting on a tie!”), or sartorially clueless. If/How to Wear a Suit Without a Tie.
Surely you mean centre !! - here you are talking about standards dropping and ............................... TD
Also states pants now a suit jacket with just a pair of pants and please smart.casual jacket with pair of jeans on older men should be criminalised
I would say that men's clothing has been on a long trend of becoming less formal for the past two hundred years. I mean: waistcoats used to be important, as did hats.
Hats still are important - keeps my glasses dry when its raining, keeps the sun out of my eyes when (and if) summer arrives, keeps my head warm in winter Waistcoats appear to have been replaced with gilets or bodywarmers which can be useful as they add easily accessible pockets for all sorts of things TD
Here I am proudly walking my eldest down the aisle in 2018, just before nipping off to facilitate several house viewings in Teddington.
Oh, I agree - I have quite a collection! But it used to be absolutely de rigueur that if a man went outside he did so wearing a hat. Women too, for that matter.
