Er, no not quite what I thought and yes I should have stated that it was for the General Reserve Engineering Force in the Burma Campaign, specifically 864 ME Coy. I wanted to know the allocation of Bulldozers to the unit.

"Mechanical Equipment Company" returns 8 hits:
    1 - 3) IV/22 C/2 to 4 (see Trux page)
    4) XV/319/1 - Headquarters of a Mechanical Equipment Company, R.E. (Light)
    5 - 6) VIII/16/1 and amendment - 796 Mechanical Equipment Company, R.E.
    7) VIII/309/1 - Detachment, Special Mechanical Equipment Company, Iceland (C), Type 'B'
    8) XIII/206/1 - Headquarters, Mechanical Equipment Company, Ceylon Engineers

All have effective date which can be compared to your unit. Some dates available.

The system of subsidiarity is: Unless there is no hint to the more special nos. 4 to 8, nos. 1 to 3 will apply, according to date. Volume IV is the Field Force default for lines of communication units.

Volume XV was created on 12.07.1944 for "Units and headquarters of the Light Division" ("division" not to be taken too literally), earmarked for the Far East. Most if not all have caveats.

Don't know much about New Zealand war establishments.

You might already have found this one which contains some detail on strength:
21 Mechanical Equipment Company | NZETC

There are even more hits on 21 NZ company.

IF(!) New Zealand organized on British WEs the following would apply: There is no special WE in volume VI for Middle East. Other special WEs would not apply, so that the default (volume IV - Lines of Communication) would apply. In September 1943 (effective 20.08.1943) , IV/22 C/4 for Company Headquarters and IV/22 D/3 for Sections were promulgated. You find them here in the Trux Section on 21 Army Group:
CHIEF ENGINEERS (WORKS) and MISCELLANEOUS ENGINEER UNITS
with more information on equipment here:
    ROYAL ENGINEERS - Introduction

Before September 1943, following WEs would apply (effective dates):
    Company Headquarters:
IV/22 C/2: 03.07.1940, HQ (23 all ranks) and Repair Section (25 all ranks), OC is Major
IV/22 C/3: 25.08.1941, HQ (48 all ranks) and Workshop Section (23 all ranks), OC is Major
(IV/22 C/1 was for an Excavator Company.)

    Section:
    IV/22 D/1: 19.06.1940, HQ and 4 Sub-Sections (10 + 4 * 10 all ranks), OC is Subaltern, 4 Subalterns for Sub-sections
IV/22 D/2: 25.08.1941, no structure, 75 all ranks, OC now Captain.

  8. Hi Aixnan
Thank you for answering at least I now know the WE No. I Have seen the 21 Mechanical Equipment Company | NZETC ones (authorized strength of a headquarters (3 officers and 8 other ranks), a repair section (1 officer and 22 other ranks), and four working sections (1 officer and 51 other ranks), in all 8 officers and 234 other ranks.1940). I am trying to look at the War Diaries (only get to Wellington once a year for a day) the March 1941(Strength form ) has as establishment 1 Major, 1 Captain, 6 Lieutenants, 3 Second Lieutenants, 1 WOII, 1CQMS, 1 Staff Sergeant, 5 Sergeants, 26 corporals & Lance- Sergeants, 23 Lance corporals and 195 Sappers Total of 11 Officers and 252 Other Ranks. For May 1941 it was1 Major, 1 Captain, 6 Lieutenants, 3 Second Lieutenants, 1 WOII, 1CQMS, 1 Staff Sergeant, 5 Sergeants, 26 corporals & Lance- Sergeants, 25 Lance corporals, and 201 Sappers Total of 11 Officers and 260 Other Ranks. Each section had 1 Grader, 2 Caterpillar D8, 1 Caterpillar D7 angel, 7 Caterpillar D7 12yard carry-all’s and 2 Caterpillar D7 8yard carry-all’s I don't know about the rest of transport in Hq and Sections.

    Off the IV/22 C/2: 03.07.1940 Hq and Repair 48, IV/22 D/1: 19.06.1940 4x50(200) so company was in 1940 248 all ranks and IV/22 C/3: 25.08.1941 HQ and Workshop 71, IV/22 D/2: 25.08.1941 4x75 (300) Company 1941 371 all ranks, hopefully, one day ill find it (WE) in Wellington
    Regards Hildaren
