I am trying to identify a Lieutenant B Wilson of the BEF. I think he may have been with 9 RNF. Can anyone help identify him? Andrew
Andrew The only way you may find out is by obtaining the 9NF war diary and seeing if there is any reference to your officer.
I'll check the battalion diary later for you-If there's a officer field return in the diary he'll be listed.
I could not find a reference on CWGC website for that name between 1939-42. Was he a pre war regular?, you might have luck tracing him through harts army list, but the only reference I could find on LG was a chap in 5th Bn South Staffs in 1939. Regards Simon
Found a 2/Lt B Wilson in the Army List of October 1940 (page attached), but he was in the LANCASHIRE Fusiliers. The only other B Wilsons in the index are two in the Royal Artillery and another in the South Staffordshire Regt. Richard
Hello Andrew, There is no ROH or indexed mention of Lt B Wilson in 'The History Of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers in the Second World War' (CN Barclay). Good luck with your search! Best, Steve.
Thank you all for your help. The name is on an ammunition box and was thought to be BEF but further investigation shows the box to be dated 1942 which obviously puts it outside the BEF period and also means it would not have been 9NF. He could be one of the four that Richard Lewis found. I will pass this back to the questioner and see if he can give any further information. Andrew
Just to add in May 1940 he was in HQ Company and looks like he was the Coy. 2ic. Thanks Andy. Maybe he is the one. Andrew
