Was 5 Advance Base Workshops REME in Burma ?

    Hello all,

    Can anybody confirm whether 5 Advance Base Workshops REME operated in Burma please ?

    I've found plenty of info on this site re their Middle east exploits but nothing relating to Burma/ Far east.

    I ask because I'm helping a friend research a family member and his Burma Star assoc. application lists 5 ABW as his unit on it. It also lists his medals as - Burma star, 39/45 star and defence but no Africa star !

    Service records have been ordered.

    Yes, at Chittagong 04/45 and Rangoon, as 12 Army Troops, 08/45 and 11/45. Remained in Burma until 08/46 at least.

    Thank you for that. At least that answers that question.

    He was supposedly a POW so I'm not sure how his time with this unit fits into that timeline. Maybe it was an administrative posting at the end of hostilities ?

    The service records will solve it i guess.
