Wartime cypher

    OK, here's one for the brainy chaps. A medal group I recently bought has the following groups of letters on a magazine. It might be a cypher, so would be interesting to see what people think. It's as follows:

    K D A N
    E A C A
    L C B B
    M B D E
    N E E D
    C M M M

    Any ideas...?

    Kurzsignale perhaps?

    ......During the Second World War the German U-boats used Kurzsignale or Short Signals to send their messages. The Kurzsignale were an important part of the complex Kriegsmarine communications system.....

    I suppose that these letters are included in a undeciphered german message.....:confused:

    I suppose that these letters are included in a undeciphered german message.....:confused:

    No, they are just written on a newspaper commemorating the 4 Recce Regiment's transfer from 4th Infantry Division.

    No they were a type of short hand three letter code used within the text of a message. I can't give you an example right now but will try and locate some examples for you and post these later.
