I have been collecting copies of these over the years and have started to transcribe and publish them as quickly as I can. To save time I have not done anything with the numerous and lengthy annexes (usually fire plans, etc.) though. What I have done so far can be seen at War Diaries For 3rd Regimemt Royal Horse Artillery More will be added when time permits.
Just to update that the Diaries for 1939. 1940, 1941, 1943 & 1944 are on line and can be seen at War Diaries For 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery 1942 & 1945 to follow latter.
Hi, does anyone following this thread have a copy of page 11 (see -11- at top of the diary, just above Summary of Events ) for March 1945. TNA Ref is 3 RHA 1945 1945 Jan.- Apr WO 171_5079. Somehow. I managed to miss taking a photo of this one page and it is preventing me transcribing the diaries for 1945.
Quick update that the Diaries for 1939 to 1941 and 1943 to1945 (less the one page above for March 1945) are on line and can be seen at War Diaries For 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery Just 1942 to do later, when I get copies of that year sorted.
Have finally finished transcribing the diaries for 1942 and the are now online, with the other years and can be seen at War Diaries For 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, I just have a few interesting Annexes to add, shortly.
Many thanks, but I have Dec 1941 for J Bty RHA already transcribed and on the web War Diaries For J Battery Royal Horse Artillery (desertrats.org.uk) which cover lots of months from 1939 to 1944, albeit with some months still missing, While working through 3 RHA's diaries for some years copies of D, J & M diaries were enclosed, which added to the collection. Best wishes,
Just to update everyone that the Diaries for 1939 to 1945 are on line and can be seen at War Diaries For 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. I have included the important and interesting Appendices. Alas some of the early 1944 pages are missing from TNA copies, but the main events are covered. Best wishes,
I will see what there is, but the early years are patchy. I think there may be something of Op Goodwood.
No more at present for 3 RHA. Remember they only became Field in mid 42 which meant less that a year in action in the desert. Italy 43 was only a couple of months and that leaves less that a year over 44 & 45. There might be something for Op Shears in late 44 in 3 RHA or 5 RHA diaries, but that will need checking out and possibly something for 5 RHA in Germany 45. Alas no idea when I will get to look at them Regards,
