Attached is a transcription of the 57th Field Regt. Royal Artillery . It covers the period of April-May 1940. This details their move from Stoke to Dunkirk. This is my Father's Regiment. He was 937122 Gnr Alexander Cormack. He did not make it of the beach at Dunkirk. he spent the war as a POW The may be a few errors due to some difficulties in reading some of the hand writing.

Hi I appreciate how difficult it is to read some of these hand-written diaries. The transcript is very useful. Sorry to hear your father did not make it off the beach. Do you know anything about the guns and equipment this regiment used? I see a reference to Quads in your text so this indicates Guy or Morris Quad tractors but I didn't see which guns they had. In case you do not know, I understand the markings they would have used would have been a 48th Division formation sign (red or white oval - not sure) and an arm of service plate with a red over blue background and a number 3 on it in white. Have you any pictures? Regards Andrew (escaping momentarily from the 1940 forum)
Hi Andrew, I don't have any detail on the equipment. From what my Father said I believe the guns were 25lb. At present I,m transcribing the movement order from Stoke to Southhampton, prior to their embarkation to France.
Andrew, The best place to look for information on the guns might be CRA 44th Div or 44th Div Ammunition Company.
These two documents make up the movement order for the 57th FD Regt, from Stoke. When transcribing, I could see the format of the movement order has not changed much to the present day. The layout is similar, but the headings have changed to current G.S.M.E.A.C. format. Also I had no idea of the number of vehicles attached to the Regt. a total of 114, and 29 motor cycles. I would be interested to see a brake down of how all these vehicles were deployed within the Regiment.
I'd love a complete set of those BEF maps to pin up in my command centre. Was the map loose in the file Craig?
The map was in the file. I got TNA to scan the copy. There were overlays, which unfortunately I did not copy.
