Perhaps if she left a will or someone dealt with her estate the Australian version of a grant of probate or letters of administration will satisfy the Uk authorities. Worth checking.

Obtaining an Australian death certificate is simplicity itself . It just costs a bit . You can apply online . Each state keeps its own death records

A little bit more info from Terence Birth Certificate.

She is described as WAAF of (RAF) Faldingworth - no details of father, place of birth Holmecroft and informant W T Smart occupier of Holmecroft.

Louth is some 20 miles from RAF Faldingworth so in the vicinity but not close enough to be considered a billet area.
    RAF Faldingworth - Wikipedia

I have seen previous employment on birth certificates often enough not to be able to say whether she was still serving or had been discharged.

Holmecroft is the County Hospital/Nursing Home and Smart was the hospital registrar/secretary.

So its back to Service Record - you could try a yes/no question to RAF Disclosures backed up by her Birth Certificate, Terence Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate to explain name change and photo of grave explaining the 30 year wait for copy of death certificate - asking for statement of confirmation of service or discharge around the birth date.

Previously MoD would supply this style of abbreviated confirmation during the 25 year after death period but I see it has now been removed from the .GOV pages.

Does somewhat suggest that as of Feb 1944 had not changed name to Burns and strengthens AIR78 card changes to after this date and points to service beyond 1944.

Firstly thank you very much for providing the assistance in researching this one, I'm glad to be able to provide some closure, safe to say Hats are safe,
I applied for the records thinking at least it was worth a shot and it was a fast process, the FOI act was crucial for access it would seem.

I have just now received Monica's Service Records, she made that story up, why god only knows, that will always remain a mystery.

Regarding the records, most of it makes sense, but if you can shed more light on some of these details, for example 2.w.c.d, I also can't make out above 11 Base, it mentions I believe RAF Snaith and 166 something to that effect.

    Hello Watkin.

This will be for Ross (RAF Commands) to decipher. Expertise beyond me required!

Kind regards, well done in getting the service records, always,

    Jim.

Cheers for that - I can see where the links we found fit in now.

The 2WCD is Strathavon Hospital - she has two periods where she was admitted first after RAF Station Dyce then RAF Station Snaith with a short period at No.1 Balloon Training Unit.

No.1667 Conversion Unit is the bit above 11 Base - this relates to RAF Station Faldingworth on the Birth Certificate

1667 Conversion Unit. Formed at Lindholme (UK) in June 1943. Moved to Faldingworth (UK)... | The National Archives

Originally mustered as Waitress then remustered as Driver Mechanical Transport.

Her last posting before giving birth to Terence was No.14 Base at RAF Ludford Magna and she was discharged from the RAF on compassionate grounds a few days after.

As the crow flies Louth is about 9 miles from Ludford Magna so not too distant.

Despite the hospital admissions that you see on this record it shows a relatively stable posting history - meaning she had the confidence of her Officer Commanding - there is no sign of moving on a problem - and this is echoed by her yearly character assessments as Very Good and satisfactory proficiency in Trade and as Acting Cpl supervision.

The posting to No.1 BTU after the first hospital admission/discharge was for her driver training and remuster as DMT so again no residual medical reason to be classed as unfit for DMT duties.

I'm looking for the names of any WAFF Military personnel that served at the Chain Home Low Radar Station at Bembridge Fort during WW2 if anyone could help. I currently don't have any names and doing some research for a book if anyone could help. Many Thanks Ashley
