I know the Wiltshires of the 43rd Wessex Division received reinforcements from the Green Howards in early 1944 (see Barron's "From the city, from the plough") but were other divisions given a strengthening of 50th Infantry Division or other experienced 1st or 8th Army divisions? I am interested in possible Scottish reinforcements to the 15th Division. Both it and the 43rd are considered elite in NWE 1944-45. Keith
Hi, I understand 6th Battalion Border Regiment were disbanded in Normandy July 1944 - having been a “beach group” guarding stores etc since D Day - and the men split up between the infantry Battalions in 15th Scottish Division. Steve
Blimey!!! I knew this forum was full of experts but seven or eight seconds between post and reply is - astonishing! The 6th Borders are not an exact fit (they were even less experienced than many of the 15th Divisions infantry battalions) but the fact they are identified as possibly being is encouraging.
