My dad was an Em2c (2nd Class Electricians Mate) on the USS Tinosa on war patrols 6-11. Tinosa was credited with sinking 16 Japanese ships for over 64,000 tons. On her second war patrol, Tinosa's skipper Dan Daspit, brought to light the problems with the infamous Mk 14 torpedo. Here is a photo of my dad at age 19 on the cigarette deck of Tinosa in the East China sea.

And here is an article on the torpedo problem.

By the way, my avatar is a facsimile of the battle flag of USS Tinosa.
