US Jeep windscreens

    Anybody know why they fold down? At a guess, I'd say it's because it would have been easier to fit a stretcher to the bonnet?? Maybe?

    The screen's there for 'normal' use but is worth shifting out of the way if a better view is required than through mud spattered glass.
    Also, if people are shooting at you, a sheet of glass may not be the best thing to have obstructing your return fire or showering you with broken bits.
    Stretcher carrying/flat load space is definitely also a plus, or easing the mounting of heavier weapons.

    s'pose it's just another small facet of what makes the Jeep such an all round great design.

    The primary reason is shipping space. It makes the vehicle more compact for shipment which was usually done in a crate (if assembled) and allowed for more crates to be stacked in a given area or ship's hold.

    I think that low silhoutte would also be a factor in some situations. LRDG vehicles being a good example.
