While watching a TV series called Battlefield on Discovery Knowledge about the Battle of Arnhem, at the end of the program it shows a Bi-spectacled grimy young Airborne Officer with a field dressing on he's cheek making comments to he men and pointing at the camera, doe's anyone know who he is?. I did notice due to artistic licence that a few shots of Canadian paratroopers where shown as captured troops at Arnhem
David MCcombe is the guy www.samiiitaryhistory.org/vol102ma.html named here with the pic but In Niall Cherrys book RB&RC it says its Howard Coxon?
Interesting ,how did you get this?, as I always thought Coxon was the ones with the glasses on never seen a photo og McCombe with glasses on.
According to his entry here it is MCcombe World War II unit histories & officers Although the images is small it doe's appear to be MCcombe. I also found him in my copy of RBRC where the images is much larger
Thanks, have had a look, but photographs, not enough for me, always want a source Philip are you talking of Howard Woodrow Coxon, SQDR Leader RAF Liasion Group, Comander 6080 Light Warning unit radar? you can see his picture on the Pegasus archive website, and in the bios under Major Roy W.R Oliver, there is a group pic Coxon is second left and if you compare this with the MCcombe pic (which I already gave two sources for) and Medics, description MCcombe, is the man he describes
Yep, I was told and also showed on the photographs that it was him, for a long time he was mentioned as Coxon, officer in 1st Parachute Battalion, but he never was at Arnhem with the Battalion.

Having checked a few books he is refered to wrongly! in the pic which Medic refers to as Major N. Coxon OC, HQ/Support coy 1 Para, but the only Coxon at arnhem was the one I mentioned and the guy is clearly from my links David W. MCcombe GSO3 T/ Maj with South African title wings and Pegasus, and bandage on face.
David McCombe was my Uncle. I know very little about him other than appears in the South African article about his pioneering parachute work. I was intrigued to learn that there is video/dvd footage of him. Can anybody tell me the titles he appears in so that i can try to obtain them.
