Can any one please suggest the meaning of the following abbreviation............... awarded W.T.P.R with effect from 16/11/1940....... this appears on my Father's service record sheet, I have looked at the very useful service abbreviations posts already but can't seem to find a referance for WTPR anywhere, suggestions welcome Thanks Pete
Normally W.T.P.P. War Time Proficiency Pay. A badly written P or the person who wrote it used RATE instead of Pay.
Thank you for a very prompt response on close inspection with a magnifying glass it is indeed written WTPP. At this point in time my Father was a Private in U Coy Royal Norfolks and was driving around Norfolk and Suffolk for a Capt Gregson. It was Gregson who made and signed the entry. Is it therefore right to I assume this payment would be something to do with being an Officers driver ?. I have not come across WTPP's before so I'm not sure how or why the payments were awarded was it a one off payment or an addition to standard pay ? Pete
Don't think It was awarded for any specific thing, just a way of rewarding a soldier who is a bit more skilled at something more than the other soldiers, it goes a long way back in the army. Could be just that he already held a driving license. Additional proficiency pay is payable if the soldier fulfils certain conditions as to service and qualification: British Army 1914 rates of pay
Many thanks RCG and Owen, my Father was a car driver with 4 years experience before call up so it would seem likely that was why the award was made in recognition of his roll as driver to Capt Gregson. Another piece of the jigsaw in place Thanks Pete
