1st.Northamptonshire Yeomanry.LAD From my fathers notes(REME.LAD) :- "Embarked on SS.Glendenning at 3pm Sunday 11/6/44 for France Arrived off Kings Beach 10am on 12/6/44 Disembarked Love Beach (Le Hamel) " Am I correct in thinking that 'Love Beach is a sector within Kings Beach.? Regards, Ken.
ON June 13, 1944, headquarters and A Troop of 317 Battery, 92nd (Loyals) LAA Regiment RA, left their camp at Rowland’s Castle near Portsmouth and boarded a US tank landing ship. After anchoring for 36 hours in the Solent, they sailed for Normandy on the morning of June 15, arriving off Jig Beach opposite Le Hamel near Arromanches the same evening. Next day, the battery disembarked and linked up with its B and C Troops, which had sailed earlier in tank landing craft. The newcomers were deployed on the high ground at Periers-sur-le-Dan, west of the Orne, in defence of 3rd Division field guns. HQ was established at Hermanville.

Regards, Ken. Ken, King Beach was one of the four sectors of GOLD beach, along with Item and Jig. The fourth How, was not used. King was split into two sectors, Red and Green (La Riviere/Ver-sur-Mer) with the same for Jig sector (Le Hamel/Asnelles) Can't seem to find a reference for the Love Beach you mentioned??? Maybe a 'pun' by the troops?... Unless you fancy a bit of Normandy style singles dating!!!
there was a love beach on GOLD see post #21 here Looking maps from D-Day Museum at Portsmouth also dated 6th April '44, labelled ON1 Appendix VII Annexe A GOLD has ITEM Green and Red JIG Green & Red KING Green & Red LOVE Green only. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/nw-europe/13777-6th-d-day-landing-beach-their-code-names-band-beach.html anyway going back to original query, have you a unit in mind that landed on those days ?
I think Tony is looking for a unit for a friend called Suffolk Yeomanry. His friend said they were in France to in 1940 and are Cavalry. No such unit in France during 1940. The nearest I can find is 65th (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regiment.
65 A/Tk Regt landed over the period 9-12 June so there is an overlap. The separate Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanries combined to form 108 (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Field Brigade, Royal Artillery in 1923. In 1938 they were re-roled as 55 (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regiment RA. In 1939 the TA was doubled in size so the regiment divided into 55 (Suffolk Yeomanry) and 65 (Norfolk Yeomanry) A/Tk Regts. 65 went to France with the BEF, then went to North Africa and Italy. 55 stayed in England until Normandy. It's possible that some personnel may have moved between the two as they were 'related'.

I think he said to Tony they were Cavalry in 1940 France and Normandy and not RA after I suggested the other day the unit could be 65th A/T Regt. I can't speak for the later but there definately was no such armoured unit in Flanders.

Sorry to continue the "off topic" guys... Owen, I've delved a bit deeper with regards "Love Sector" and found two maps... The first shows Gold Beach with Love appearing as the eastern most sector and looking like it's been 'cut and pasted' from another map... Gold Beach And the second showing Love Sector as the western most sector of Juno beach (listed as used for admin purposes only)... Juno Beach I'm confused?????? again, sorry for the off topic.
Love is simply the sector between GOLD's Item-Jig-King and JUNO's Mike-Nan. The beach sectors were lettered sequentially along the coast and referred to using the contemporary phonetic alphabet. The assault areas (i.e. GOLD, JUNO etc.) came after and not all beach sectors were assaulted.
102 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. On the 12th june 1944, the CO, Lt. Col Nigel Thompson along with half of Regimental Headquarters and 338 Battery commanded by Major C.M. Adderley sailed from Tilbury docks on board craft serial number MT54, a liberty ship called the Empire Grey. They landed on Sword Beach, Homer assembly sector on the 16th June. Would love to establish where Homer assembly sector is (and Masefield assembly sector as well).
