Can anybody help me identify this Scottish WW2 era uniform? (My Uncle Fred Wilkinson from Ferryhill, Durham). I'm not 100% sure of the date but Fred was born 1923 so I'm guessing this must circa 1945 ? Fred Wilkinson 2 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Many thanks Pete
Many Many Thanks Paul - I think you are right having googled some images. (It never ceases to amaze me how quick an answer will come back in this forum).
Hodgson - yep - Paul has it right - the Agile & Sufferin highlanders- as they were known- thought that avatar was of the 9th Lancers ... Cheers
Robert, Easton Duthie Serjeant 2876457 2nd Bn Gordon Highlanders DOD 05/06/43 Aged 24 Thailand/Burma Railway Son of Alexander and Elizabeth Easton Duthie of Glenbervie, Kincardineshire. Scotland. Beloved brother to Mary, Jean and Ruby. 'The finest regiment that ever was' - Winston Spencer Churchill. My late uncle. 68 YEARS ago TODAY. 'Bydand' - Forever.
Might also be 91 or 93 Anti Tank Regts Royal Artillery. Both were converted from the A&SH. There is a studio portrait in a book on 93 A/Tk of the author wearing an identical uniform taken in mid '44.
Derek - Many Infantry battalions were converted into Tank regiments of the RAC - BUT they then wore the RAC badge - surely any conversions from the A & S to anti tank- would wear the RA badge ...? Cheers
Tom A lot of units converting to RA retained parts of their original uniforms, cap badges, shoulder titles and headdress. The A&SH retained most of their infantry appointments including both the Glengarry and Tam O Shanter with the A&SH badges. I have started to add some of these differences to my site as you can see here: RA 1939-45 Unit Insignia Index Derek
