    Hi

Looking for thoughts on the uniforms in the two images. The image on the right taken approx 6 weeks after being freed POW and the left image within the following 12 months. Does the stripes on arm suggest promotion, as not recorded in service record?

    Thanks

Stripes indicate a certain number of service years overseas. Not sure how many two stripes stands for though.

Please disregard my contribution above. I now realize stripes I am talking about are of a much smaller size (and red). Would be interesting to know however what a soldier would be wearing if he had served both overseas and would have shown good conduct...

    Wrong.
One stripe for 2 years good conduct.
    Two stripes for 6 years.
Removed once the soldier makes Corporal.

Realized that, in the meantime. Please also take a look at the question I added to my post #3...

    Thank you for replies.

He served more than 6 years hence the 2 stripes, see below.

Would welcome any other help in learning what else is on uniform.

    Thanks

Would this be Regular Soldiers only?

He was a regular soldier signed 6 years with colours - 6 years reserves in 1938.

If this helps answer your question.
