The was only one tank on display at the parade in Moscow today: a T-34.... developed in Kharkiv/Ukraine.

My only question is how can such field defences be constructed during the reported Spring thaw, they do take time to dig?

Think of Flanders in WWI - the conditions should be pretty similar

A short article by Frank Ledwidge (UK) after a trip to the Ukraine, with others. He He told us these operations are “more likely to resemble the Allied campaign in Italy during the second world war”with:
Later on, appropriate for this forum, citing a ret'd UK general:

Speaking of "appropriate for this forum" - only one generation away from T-34s:

I thought it had a Stalin's Organ on it at first glance.

Yes, it's a big metal box with armament. A certain utility, but...
Not even any reactive armour I can see. Really does look like it's been dragged from store, got rolling, and thrown in.
I'm sure modern AT will just bounce off that double roof rack.

This is not first order military power.
This is Ethiopia in the 80s.
    Strange times.

History comes back full circle: While digging trenches, Ukrainian soldiers keep coming across the remains of fallen soldiers from WW2

Spare a thought for authors of T54/55 books.
'well that's its combat history wrapped up.'

I'm looking forward to the books on "uniforms and equipment of the Ukrainian forces" which will run to several hundred volumes considering the supply chain sources they have

    Excellent point.
Osprey authors rubbing their hands together at future job security.

The video currently doing the rounds of a Russian squaddie surrendering to a drone and being guided to Ukrainian lines is remarkable.
A notable bit of technological/military history.

Seems like Russians are using T-54/T-55 tanks mostly as artillery, with just three men crew per vehicle. At least in the south. Probably due large stocks of shells available.

"I doubt if they're fully serviceable."

    "They've still got guns." :)
