Our friend Dawn Monks has been sharing these photos with us over on Twitter this afternoon and very kindly allowed me to post them on the forum. They were taken by her Great Uncle, Bert Hulatt who served with the Royal Engineers

The Menin Gate in Ypres, note the battle damage on both photos.

A couple of photos of Bert, again at the Menin Gate

It looks as if Bert was conducting his own little Battlefield Tour. Here he his at the Menin Road South CWGC Cemetery. It looks as if the Gardeners had only just got back to work.

A dummy casemate, Paul believes it was at Ostend.

Beach defences. We are not sure where they are, perhaps Ostend again?

    Superb historical photographs.

Recognise the Menin South CWGC Cemetery. My NZ cousin's husband's uncle is buried on the back wall.He was KIA in late December 1917 while serving in the NZ Rifle Brigade....served on the Messines Ridge in the summer of 1917, then survived Paschendaele but then lost his life in the vicinity of Polygon Wood.

Shown in the beach defences,is a Teller mine illustrated?

Rewdco or Rich Payne might be able to ID the buildings along the beach-I think it maybe La Panne

I should add,as regards the Menin Road South Cemetery, the last time we visited it,there appeared to be a party walking along the graves....got into the cemetery and found that they were locals picking mushrooms.

The promenade has a look of Blackenberge.

Just one more to add. The RE Xmas card for 1944. No prizes for guessing the name of the river!
