Following a question on another forum, I'm trying to find out more about the origin of town-twinning. I know my home town in England is twinned with Solingen in Germany, but don't know when this began, and why. It's not just UK, a village near us in France is twinned with one in Spain etc. At a guess, it was to help repair relations with other countries after WW2. Has anyone any more information?
