My name is Shaun Smillie, I trying to identify an Italian officer who my grandfather took prisoner in the Western Desert during World War Two. My grandfather William Findlay Smillie was a member of the Long Range Desert Group and took a packet of photographs of the Italian, which I have. All I know is that the officer was high ranking. Unfortunately there is no name on the pictures, although a military historian who has been helping me believes from his insignia that he was commissioned into the Italian First Divisional artillery regiment which was part of the 22 Infantry Division. It appears that he attended the la scuola di applicazione in Turin, which at the time was an artillery school. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. This was either May for June 1933. I am recording my search on my blog @ Smillie's People
Hi Shaun, can you post any of the photos? Once they are posted people may be able to help you identify who he was, and if not they may be able to give you further info on his rank and regiment based on uniform insignia. Do you mean May or June 1943? Wayne My name is Shaun Smillie, I trying to identify an Italian officer who my grandfather took prisoner in the Western Desert during World War Two. Hello Shaun, fascinating thread. Being Italian, I would be pleased to assist you in your research, as I can. For instance, I may spread this news in the Italian-speaking fora.

Hi Wayne, It is 1933. My suspicion is that these photographs were taken after he was commissioned as a lieutenant. I guess he was carrying these pics as mementoes when he was captured. I will post the rest of the pics, still learning how to use the forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thread here on how to add pics to your posts. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/network-information/12816-how-insert-pictures-videos-into-your-posts.html
Hello Shaun, If there were any words written on the back of these pictures, I may translate them in English. Names, dates, towns or other would be surely helpful for your search.
Hi Marco The writing on the back of some of the photographs is really faint, most of it is in pencil. This is what some one was able to decipher. What I will do is post the pictures again with scans of the backs of them. But so far this is what is written on three of the pictures.
I am going to post each of these photos one by one, including if there is anything writing on the back. If anyone can tell me anything about the regiment this Italian belonged too, that would be great. So here goes. Pic one On the back of this picture is what is believed to be written: Ti sei indignato troppo nel posare è così?
On the back of this picture is written Turin 26/06/33. That fountain is the Fontana dei Dodici Mesi in Turin
On the back of this photograph appears to be written:" BC scuola Allievi ufficiali gennaio 1933 servizio di ramazza"
On the back of this picture is written : Rovigno d’Istria 25 aprile 1933 Nei dieci minuti di intervallo dopo la pulizia degli (?)
